As MEO's first Americorps State member, Lia Spaniolo promotes the benefits of local food and farming through community outreach, educational events and the development and management of the East Lansing office's LEED Sustainable Sites Education Garden. She also works to recruit volunteers for these and other programs.

Spaniolo has a BS in Anthropology and a M.S. in Community, Food and Agriculture, both from Michigan State University, and has experience working as a crew member for the University's Student Organic Farm. She has also interned with the Nature Conservancy, and served as a World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) volunteer in a small village in northern Thailand. She loves all kinds of outdoor recreation, as well as growing her own food and testing out new recipes in her kitchen.
