As a licensed residential builder and a HERS rater, TJ Brown has applied 18 years of construction, and youth education experience to his work with Michigan Energy Options. He manages all programs running out of the northern office, and also serves as a building analyst and contractor for the City of Marquette.

Brown received a BS in Environmental Science from Northern Michigan University, and his expertise with biodiesel and residential contracting led him to join the MEO team in 2005. Since then, he has been instrumental in the development and delivery of all MEO programs and services. In his role at MEO, Brown has used over 1,000 gallons of homemade biodiesel, HERS qualified 8 new homes worth $16,000 of tax credits and completed over 200 home energy assessments and 70 commercial energy audits. He has also presented sustainability-related workshops statewide for over 6,000 participants.

In addition to his role at MEO, Brown serves as the chair of the City of Marquette Public Works Advisory Board and as member of the Marquette Sustainability Community Committee. He has also worked as an alpine ski coach for 18 years.
