Topics: Residential Green Building Rating Systems, components and LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design)
There are several green building rating systems available for residential structures and renovations. In this workshop, we will review the categories of the USGBC LEED-Homes that guide the design and construction of green/sustainable homes. We will explain what credit points are and provide examples of best practices in earning them in different categories. This will help you apply thoughtful design principles to your next home or renovation.
The concepts of integrated design and whole building systems will be discussed, showing how each design choice is connected to the whole and how building components can serve multiple purposes that can allow systems to be optimally sized, saving the home owner operating costs and lowering the home’s environmental impact. The initial steps of the USGBC LEED-Homes registration process will also be touched on.
