Sustainability Education HandbookSustainability Topics:"Let's help our students see themselves as contributing and active citizens instead of cynical armchair pontificators. We need to share stories with them of people who have made a positive difference for society." --Debra Rowe Broadening the Content & Deepening the Inquiry An inter-disciplinary approach Below is a list of eighteen sustainability topics. Each topic is correlated to a Sample Activity and the Michigan State Framework Standards and Benchmarks. Click on any topic to view Sample Activity. The Sample Activities also lists websites and curriculum for further teaching ideas on each topic. The chart represents the multi-disciplinary, multi-strand approach of using sustainability concepts as a theme within your classroom. This list is by no means definitive or exhaustive but an excellent starting point. We recognize not all school subjects are included in this chart (i.e. industrial arts, home economics, electives), but please view the Sample Activities section for any topic that is of interest to you.
