Volunteer and Internship Opportunities

Volunteers and interns make our organization vibrant and strong! When a group of concerned citizens and volunteers started Michigan Energy Options, it was the community spirit and energy of people like you that has allowed us to serve communities across the state for over 30 years.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are presently needed to work in our East Lansing Demonstration Center that includes a renewable energy system comprised of solar shingles, an edible forest garden, working outdoor and indoor vermicomposting bins, an energy bike, and much more!

Assistance is needed in several areas, including (but never limited to!)

• Assistance with statewide programs
• Improving displays and materials in the demonstration house
• Landscaping and gardening, grounds maintenance
• General maintenance and upkeep (some specific skills may be required)

Internship Opportunities

We are always looking for Journalism as well as PR and Marketing interns.  While we are generally not able to provide paid internship (unless we have grant funding to do so) we make up for that by trying hard to provide valuable learning opportunities that will help you bring your career to the next level.

Our interns work on a variety of tasks that range from working first hand on statewide PR and Marketing campaigns, to managing website content, to designing educational and marketing materials with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.  If you are interested in learning more about specific internship opportunities, please use the contact form below.

Think you've got what it takes?  The following skills are helpful:

• Good communication skills and a willingness to educate the public about energy and sustainability issues.
• Good organizational skills
• The ability to work in collaboration with others as part of a team
• A desire to learn about the organization and structure of a successful non-profit
• Proficiency in Microsoft word, excel, and related programs is appreciated, but not required.
